Every website that receives SSL certification also receives a Site seal that when displayed on the site, identifies the site as being SSL certified. This seal is commonly known as SSL Site seal or Identity Site seal because it contains a unique code that is associated with the SSL certificate identity of that website.
Different types of SSL certificates come with different types of Identity Site seals. A site seal for a particular type of SSL certificate identifies the website as being certified with that SSL certificate. For example, the identity site seal for RapidSSL® Certificate, when displayed on a website conveys the message “Secured by RapidSSL”.
Just as websites can be listed in an SSL directory on the basis of the type of SSL certificates they are certified with, similarly the websites can be listed based on the type of Identity Site seal they are displaying.
SSL Directories are yellow pages of SSL websites – they provide listings of websites that are certified with SSL certificates. An Identity Site Seal Directory is a type of SSL directory with a difference; it lists websites on the basis of the type of site seal they carry.
The various types of listings in an Identity Site Seal Directory would normally be as under:
- SSL Authentication Listing
- Digital SSL Listing
- SSL Encryption Trial Listing
The above categories are indicative of the different types of site seals that are normally allotted to websites with SSL certificates.
Even websites with free or trial SSL certificates get an Identity Site Seal. An Identity Site Seal directory would include even these types of websites in its listing under the final category, i.e. SSL Encryption Trial Listing.
